Something for the kids - Bjössaróló in Borgarnes

Bjössarólo was built by idealist Björn H Guðmundsson (Bjössi), a master carpanter who lived in Borgarnes. He began constructing the playground in 1979 and maintained it himself, continually adding to it until he was well into his seventies. He built the whole playground from items that had been thrown out or were to be discarded and it’s a great place to visit with your kids. Our favorites are all the pretty colors and the love seat swing. And of course the fact it is all recycled - yay for green!

Bjössaróló is in a walking distance from our Borgarnes Hostel, which is an ideal stopover to discover the wonders of historic Borgarfjörður.

Oh and by the way: In Borgarnes there’s a bakery, Geirabakarí, famous for it’s deep fried pastry treats Ástarpungar. You should definitely check them out - even if you’ve found out what Ástarpungur actually means :)
